Pharmaceutical abortion, also known as chemical, medical, self-managed, abortion pill or RU-48 abortion, is a method to chemically induce abortion early in pregnancy (usually no later than 10 weeks of gestation). It is administered via two separate drugs, taken in pill form approximately 3 days apart from one another. The first pill blocks the pregnancy hormone progesterone, from providing the nutrients needed to support the pregnancy.  Abortion providers will insist the first pill be consumed in their office. The second pill causes severe cramping, bleeding and expulsion of the baby.  This pill will be taken anywhere from 6 hours to 3 days after the first. The purpose of this pill is to cause uterine contraction and expulsion of the baby. Unlike surgical abortions, where the abortionist immediately removes the baby and other products of conception, medical abortions usually take place at home and in solitude. Both women and experts have said the gestational sac and embryo is sometimes intact and can be clearly identified after it is expelled during these abortions (especially if the pregnancy is relatively late in the first trimester).  In some cases, chemical abortion will fail, resulting in an in office or hospital assisted surgical abortion.

surgical abortion

The type of surgical abortion performed depends on the age of the baby at the time it is to be murdered.  Suction or aspiration abortion is a procedure in which a suction catheter is inserted into the mother’s uterus to extract the pre-born baby (the baby is dismembered via vacuum). This procedure may be performed in lieu of chemical abortion during the first trimester (typically during week 5-13 of gestation).  In most cases, the cervix does not need to be dilated for this procedure.  After 12 weeks of gestation however, the abortionist will take steps to soften open the cervix prior to the procedure to ensure the medical tools can access the uterus and baby with minimal resistance. Sticks or rods of sterilized seaweed (also referred to as laminaria) are inserted into the cervix to absorb moisture and dilate the cervix. In place of the aspiration technique a dilation and evacuation procedure (referred to as a D&C) will be performed.  With this technique, the abortionist uses medical instruments to dismember and extract the baby from the uterus one part at a time (depending on the age of the baby, this requires significant force).  Based on the most recent medical research, there is evidence that the baby can feel what we perceive as pain as early as 13 weeks of age. The parts of the baby are then reassembled on a table to ensure that nothing was left behind following the procedure.  Once the baby is viable (the point at which the baby could survive outside of the uterus) around 25 weeks of age or older, induction abortion is performed. After softening and dilating the cervix, the abortionist will usually kill the baby in utero by injecting a substance that causes cardiac arrest, then proceed to induce the mother's labor, delivering her baby stillborn.

abortion pill reversal

Progesterone is a naturally occurring hormone that women produce during pregnancy which supports the health and growth of the baby.  Mifepristone (the first abortion pill administered) is used to block this hormone and prevent fetal growth.  This process CAN be safely reversed through the administration of progesterone by a physician as long as the mother has not yet taken misoprostol (the second abortion pill).  Despite legislative attempts however, abortionists are not required to inform their patients that abortion pill reversal is a viable option.

The abortion pill reversal process should begin as soon as possible after the ingestion of Mifepristone (preferably no later than 24 to 72 hours).

"It's estimated there is only 1 adoption for every 149 abortions"

Adoption and parenting are the only permissible options according to God's law. There are more families than babies waiting to love and raise an infant.  Adoption is a brave and selfless act that honors the life of the child and blesses a family with the gift of parenting.  If a mother chooses to parent, there are innumerable organizations, health care providers and individual men and women that are prepared and willing to walk along side the mom to assist financially, emotionally & physically.
